Energy Star LED Christmas Lights
Energy Star LED Christmas lights promise significant energy savings while continuing to deliver the same features and performance that consumers are expecting from their products. LED Christmas lights that receive the Energy Star label must meet the following requirements, as listed on the Energy Star website:
- Product must contribute significant energy savings nationwide. A product can not earn the Energy Star label if it is not a widely used product, or if the amount of energy savings is not significant.
- Must deliver the features and performance demanded by consumers, while reducing energy. A product that reduces energy but gives reduced performance leaves consumers with a less desirable product. The Energy Star label is reserved only for energy saving products that still operate at the highest levels in performance.
- Any product that comes with a higher initial cost must recover that cost through energy savings. LED Christmas lights cost more per strand or bulb, but with an energy savings of 80-90%, the difference in cost is recovered quickly.
- The product type must be widely available by more than one manufacturer.
- Product energy and consumption must be verified through testing. If qualified testing and measurements are not available, a product can not receive the Energy Star label. Energy Star does not award a label without specific testing standards being met.
- The Energy Star label must be added to the product in a way that is immediately noticeable by consumers when shopping, so there is a clear difference between approved and non-approved Energy Star products.
Energy Star LED Christmas lights are tested and approved by Energy Star, promising increased energy efficiency while shining with strong, bright colors and lasting as many years, if not more, than comparable LED Christmas lights.
